Overview
Find your voice in the wilderness. Then use it to roar.
Join the ladies leadership retreat that is building the brave, authentic and empathetic leaders that business needs now. Imagine a group of successful women – all forging their paths in the corporate world and all dealing with the same issues and problems – coming together to support, inspire, re-motivate and listen to one another; all set against the backdrop of real adventure in remote African Big 5 wilderness. This is exactly what you can expect from this immersion facilitated by business leaders, and industry stalwarts, Busi Mathe (Independent Non-Executive Director, Founder of Orirori Consulting, previously chairwoman of the PricewaterhouseCoopers SA Governing Board amongst other pwc roles) and, Fatima Newman (EOH Group: Executive Board Director & Chief Risk Officer).
This five-day guided hiking safari and leadership immersion is unlike any other programme out there. It fills a need for women in business to openly deal with the unique issues and problems they face in the casual patriarchy of the corporate workspace. They are joined, on this inner and outer adventure, by Lutz Otto, a leadership consultant and highly experienced wilderness guide.
Each day will combine the experience you share in raw wilderness with the work focused on your personal growth. You will start early with a hike to a new campsite in the coolness of morning. Through the days we will unpack topics including why self-worth is more important than self-confidence, what authenticity looks like in the workplace, how to effectively channel courage, working through imposter syndrome, shifting from functional to multi-tiered leadership, dealing with corporate politics, shifting away from the idolisation to humanisation of leaders, the loneliness of leadership, stewardship and probity, measuring oneself on the decency quotient, dealing stress and anxiety, burnout, debunking the picture of the perfect women, integrating a big role into life, implementing a self-care regime and using privilege effectively.
The combination of individual reflection, group discussions and listening deeply as well as being listened to, will enable significant insight and transformation. The power in this programme lies not in gaining more textbook knowledge, but in enabling and accessing the deep wisdom that already sits within you and your new pride of lionesses. Fundamentally this is about being the best version of yourself, for yourself.
Specialist wilderness guides will, in parallel, make sure that your movements are not only safe, but filled with lessons about wildlife, conservation and bushcraft. Conditions allowing, you will spend a night sleeping outdoors under the magnificent canopy of the southern stars. You’ll find nature herself is a great teacher too.
